These statistics are all for short stories, poems, or contest entries. Book reviews are not included.
- Sales in August: 0
- Rejections in August:Â 4
- Submissions sent out in August:Â 3
- Total stories/poems pending responses: 3
Pending responses include a drabble under consideration at one market and two short stories at two different markets.  I don’t do simultaneous submissions very often. The drabble has been out the longest.
At this point I don’t think the poems I sent out in January are going to get a response. I went ahead and put them down as assumed rejections in Duotrope.Â
While there were no acceptances this month I feel it was a good month for the following reasons:Â
- One of my submissions had the nicest personal rejection I’ve ever received.Â
- I learned how to write a query letter which resulted in my first freelance query to a magazine. It was ultimately rejected because they wanted more lead time on the event.Â
- Even though I’ve not published a book I also learned what a sell sheet is and how to create one.  Basically it has all of the ordering information for a book on it. It makes it easy for book clubs, libraries and others to order your book because all of the information is right there.
I suspect September is going to start the ramp up to my busy November. In September is Book Blogger Appreciation Week. I have a book review due before December I’d like to finish before things get really busy. October brings a mini-vacation, out of town visitors, the Muse Online Writing Conference and prep for NaNoWriMo. November will be my newest attempt at another novel. In addition to More Than Blue I have two unfinished novels. I’m hoping November will bring another completed first draft.
