Smith"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The press release places\u00c2\u00a0the book in the Young Adult Urban Fantasy category.\u00c2\u00a0 I do enjoy books in this genre but I am a bit older than the target audience and did not enjoy this book as much as I had hoped.<\/p>\n<p>The premise is interesting.\u00c2\u00a0 Jaynie\u00c2\u00a0is almost seventeen years old.\u00c2\u00a0 She has red hair, a temper, and big toes so large that she can&#8217;t find shoes at Bigguns Shoe Emporium to fit.\u00c2\u00a0 She discovers a mysterious magical trunk with a picture of a woman who can only be her mother.\u00c2\u00a0 Jaynie begins asking her father questions only to learn that her mother is a Fa\u00c3\u00abrie Queen who disappeared thirteen years ago and may still be alive.\u00c2\u00a0 The novel chronicles Jaynie&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0dual journies\u00c2\u00a0to find her mother and to grow up.<\/p>\n<p>None of the characters came alive for me which may have been due to some poorly timed descriptions.\u00c2\u00a0 As one example, Leo &#8211; a\u00c2\u00a0lover of Jaynie&#8217;s, is introduced to the reader and it&#8217;s twelve pages later that we find out his features are koala-esque.\u00c2\u00a0 Does this mean he\u00c2\u00a0simply looked like a koala or was Jayne&#8217;s normal world inhabited by animal\/human hybrids?\u00c2\u00a0 Leo is nocturnal and likes to sleep in Eucalyptus trees which implies the latter.<\/p>\n<p>The plot skips around a little bit and some details get mixed up.\u00c2\u00a0 For example, Jaynie&#8217;s existence for several years is as a nomadic traveler who ends up in Dumas, New York.\u00c2\u00a0 In another section she&#8217;s only known her aunt, her father and the town of Dumas.<\/p>\n<p>There are some imaginative touches such as\u00c2\u00a0the fa\u00c3\u00abrie world being underneath the world we live in.\u00c2\u00a0 In order to get to the fa\u00c3\u00abrie world Jaynie is shrunk to acorn size to fit through the entry point.\u00c2\u00a0 Dragonflies are called Zipwhizzers and used for transportation.\u00c2\u00a0 A magical weapon called the Fj\u00c3\u00a4rdmir saber makes an appearance that Jayne affectionately names Big Effer (for good reasons).<\/p>\n<p>The first chapter is available on Amazon but be forewarned it has little to do with the rest of the novel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The press release places\u00c2\u00a0the book in the Young Adult Urban Fantasy category.\u00c2\u00a0 I do enjoy books in this genre but I am a bit older than the target audience and did not enjoy this book as much as I had hoped.
