Once any new desire has been born within us, there are only two fundamental attitudes we can take in relation to it. We can direct our attention to its absence and therefore continue to hold it apart from us, or we can ponder, imagine, and delight in its eventual becoming, drawing it closer. This is the critical choice we all make in relation to each of our desires. We have the power to choose either a path of struggle and resistance or a path of joyful allowance. In other words, we can choose to relate to our desires either from the vantage point of the divine energy that creates all things or through our human eyes. These two primary perspectives are available to us in each situation, relationship, project, and condition we encounter. And which perspective we choose will determine how much ease or difficulty we experience in the realization of that desire.<\/p>\n

The perspective of the energy stream that creates and sustains all things is always forward looking, possibility based, and solution oriented. It sees whatever situation that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s before us as being rich with opportunities and resources that can be molded in each new moment in order to deliver us the precise experiences we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve asked for. This part of us is always eager for what\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s next, and as a result, it naturally and easily attracts all cooperative energies, ideas, and resources to support our greatest joy. This is the part of us that knows that every person and every situation is a blank canvas, and that every color and texture under the rainbow is available for us to paint it in and to create our life experiences as we desire them to be.<\/p>\n

In contrast to the divine perspective, there is also the human part of us that has been trained for most of our lives to scan for problems, to watch out for competition, to anticipate threats, and to view other people and life in general as a scarce and scary place. This is the part of us that focuses on limitations, dwells on past failures, and views other people as the reason we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re being held back. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the voice that often pipes up reflexively the moment we acknowledge something we desire and instantly shuts us down: You\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll never pull that off. What will people think? Who are you to want this anyway? <\/em>When a fresh new desire falls upon this path of doubt and resistance, the pure energy contained within it gets crushed across the rocks of our belief in our own limitations, and we do not receive the joy, expansion, or satisfaction that the desire has the potential to bring us. Instead, we struggle with our desires; we grow frustrated, resentful, and resigned when they do not manifest, and we blame the very situations and people whom we gave our creative power over to in the first place for the less-than-extraordinary lives we are living.<\/p>\n

In every moment, and in relationship to every desire you hold, you must make a choice between these two radically different perspectives. The human perspective will likely come fairly easily because, after all, you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re surrounded by other humans\u00e2\u20ac\u201dmost of whom don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know what you know about how the universe works. They still believe that mental and physical effort is what gets things done, so they work hard to accomplish the things they desire. They believe that in order to be wealthy, they have to manipulate someone else out of what they have already created. They see the resources of the world not as unlimited and continually replenished, but as one finite pie, in which everyone must fight to get their piece.<\/p>\n

We are all born with free will, which means that at every moment we have the power to choose where and how to apply our most precious resource: the power of our focus. When we are determined to focus on the presence of our desire rather than its absence\u00e2\u20ac\u201dwhen we are steadfast, resolved, and in harmony with the outcome we want\u00e2\u20ac\u201dpowerful forces come to our aid, and the energy that creates worlds flows in the direction of our choosing.<\/p>\n

Being born with free will means, simply, that the divine energy of your desire can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t impose itself on you because you have within you the power to allow it or to deny it. What does this mean in everyday terms? It means that if you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re going to benefit from the divine perspective that knows that everything is energy and all things are possible, right now, then you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re going to have to learn to focus on purpose.<\/p>\n

Learning to consciously direct the power of your focus is a skill that has to be developed and requires continued practice because it flies in the face of how most of us were taught to relate to the world. But this is the only way we can refine our awareness as to when something feels good and choose to move forward in that direction, and similarly to know when something feels bad and make the powerful choice to abandon ship.<\/p>\n

Remember that once a new desire has been born within you, there are only two basic positions you can take in relation to it. You can focus either on its lack or its abundance. You can make either the absence or the presence of what you desire foremost in your mind. You can focus on the feeling of wanting it, missing it, or worrying about it, or on the sensation of already having and appreciating it. With the power of your focus, you can zoom in to any experience of reality you desire. You can include every detail, or you can completely blur the lines. You can use your powerful mind to find fault or to look for things to praise. You can observe what\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s missing, or you can appreciate all that you already have. And whatever reality you direct your focus toward, just know that that reality will expand.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
