{"id":327,"date":"2008-09-17T12:34:00","date_gmt":"2008-09-17T16:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/?p=327"},"modified":"2008-09-17T12:34:00","modified_gmt":"2008-09-17T16:34:00","slug":"greywalker-and-poltergeist-by-kat-richardson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/?p=327","title":{"rendered":"Greywalker and Poltergeist by Kat Richardson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.katrichardson.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kat Richardson<\/a> has begun a book tour for the release of <em>Underground <\/em>&#8211; the third book in the Greywalker series.\u00c2\u00a0 Blog posts about the tour is what brought her and the series to my attention.\u00c2\u00a0 I thought <em>Underground<\/em> sounded interesting so I decided to read <em>Greywalker<\/em> and <em>Poltergeist<\/em> first so I wouldn&#8217;t be behind.\u00c2\u00a0 As it turns out, there wasn&#8217;t much of a worry there.<\/p>\n<p>Though many of the same characters appear in each book, it&#8217;s not necessary to read them all, though it&#8217;s certainly fun.\u00c2\u00a0 Richardson gives enough information about characters that pop up without making it feel like she&#8217;s doing an information dump; several sentences sprinkled throughout <em>Poltergeist<\/em> does the job in keeping the reader in the loop.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The series is about Harper Blaine, a private investigator in Seattle, Washington.\u00c2\u00a0 While working on a case, she gets into a bit of a scuffle which has some interesting results.\u00c2\u00a0 First, she dies for two minutes.\u00c2\u00a0 Second, she&#8217;s revived and has the ability to see things that most people can&#8217;t.\u00c2\u00a0 Third, with this new ability some of the truly stranger denizens of Seattle are drawn to her which makes for some interesting new cases.\u00c2\u00a0 The Grey is the place in between the physical world and the spiritual world.\u00c2\u00a0 Ghosts, monsters, and psychic energy forces reside there.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/greywalker.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-342 alignnone\" title=\"Greywalker\" src=\"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/greywalker.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"95\" height=\"143\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In <em>Greywalker<\/em>, Blaine learns how to see\u00c2\u00a0the Grey better and walk in it while trying to minimize the physical risk to herself.\u00c2\u00a0 She&#8217;s a normal private investigator who has suddenly found herself working with and for the paranormal.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s not something she asked for and it&#8217;s not something she embraces more than she feels is necessary.\u00c2\u00a0 The characters are complete even if Richardson doesn&#8217;t give away all of their secrets.\u00c2\u00a0 This book sets up the series and features vampires.\u00c2\u00a0 I found the world building\u00c2\u00a0information about the Grey and the various users of magic interesting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-343  aligncenter\" title=\"Poltergeist\" src=\"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/poltergeist.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"95\" height=\"143\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In <em>Poltergeist<\/em>, we find out Blaine is still resistant to learning and practicing her\u00c2\u00a0powers.
