Snyder<br \/>\n<strong>Publisher:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/sf-fantasy.suvudu.com\/\">Del Ray<br \/>\n<\/a><strong>Source:<\/strong> Columbus Metropolitan Library (but I did buy my own copy later)<\/p>\n<p>Snyder is a local author I&#8217;ve been following for a while.\u00c2\u00a0 <em>Spellbent <\/em>is set in and around Columbus, Ohio.\u00c2\u00a0 One reason why I enjoyed <em>Spellbent<\/em>so much was Snyder&#8217;s ability to seamlessly\u00c2\u00a0weave her fictional pieces of Columbus with the real ones.\u00c2\u00a0 Only true Columbusites will know which places are from her imagination.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A second reason to enjoy <em>Spellbent<\/em> is Jessie Shimmer.\u00c2\u00a0 The heroine is a novice witch whose boyfriend (and mentor) is sucked into a demon hole.\u00c2\u00a0 This is her wake up call.\u00c2\u00a0 For the reader it&#8217;s easy to say Cooper abused the influence he had over her or he doesn&#8217;t treat her like an equal partner.\u00c2\u00a0 For Jessie, this event makes her realize just how dependent she was on him.\u00c2\u00a0 She doesn&#8217;t like it and vows to change things once she gets him back.\u00c2\u00a0 During the novel some really bad things happen to her (I don&#8217;t want to give spoilers) but she has a\u00c2\u00a0sharp sense of humor to go along with it and never gives up.\u00c2\u00a0 I hope future books will let us get to know Cooper better so we can come to understand why Jessie cares about him.<\/p>\n<p>The next book, <em>Shotgun Sorceress<\/em>, is now available but I haven&#8217;t read it yet.\u00c2\u00a0 The third book in the series, <em>Switchblade Goddess<\/em>, will be available in October.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Snyder&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0received some good news about <em>Spellbent<\/em> this week.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/las.livejournal.com\/303981.html\"><em>Spellbent<\/em> will be available in French<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s currently on the preliminary Bram Stoker ballot for Superior Achievement for a First Novel.\u00c2\u00a0 That means a lot of people like it &#8211; not just me.\u00c2\u00a0 I wish her luck and hope <em>Spellbent<\/em> makes the final ballot.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Title: Spellbent Author: Lucy A.
