{"id":2426,"date":"2010-05-10T01:48:28","date_gmt":"2010-05-10T05:48:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/?p=2426"},"modified":"2010-05-09T20:48:00","modified_gmt":"2010-05-10T00:48:00","slug":"mailbox-monday-may-10th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/?p=2426","title":{"rendered":"Mailbox Monday &#8211; May 10th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_04711.jpg\"><\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-892\" title=\"Mailbox Monday\" src=\"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/mailbox.gif\" alt=\"Mailbox Monday\" width=\"121\" height=\"198\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A big thank you to Marcia at <a href=\"http:\/\/printedpage.us\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #996600;\">The Printed Page<\/span><\/a>\u00c2\u00a0for hosting Mailbox Monday.\u00c2\u00a0 A lot of new books flew into the house this week courtesy of the Ohioana Book Festival.\u00c2\u00a0 This is the fourth year of the festival in which Ohio authors are featured.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2438  aligncenter\" title=\"May 10th Mailbox Monday Books\" src=\"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_04711-e1273367071716-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"May 10th Mailbox Monday Books\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_04711-e1273367071716-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_04711-e1273367071716-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Starting from the top of the stack is <em><strong>Don of the Dead<\/strong><\/em> by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.caseydaniels.com\/\">Casey Daniels<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 This is the first in a series of mysteries featuring Pepper Martin, an heiress whose family\u00c2\u00a0fortunes has turned sour.\u00c2\u00a0 She must get a job.\u00c2\u00a0 The only job she can find is that of a cemetery tour guide.\u00c2\u00a0 Through an on the job accident, she finds she can communicate with the dead.\u00c2\u00a0 In this first book she helps a deceased mafia boss hunt down his killers.\u00c2\u00a0 Each book in the series focuses on a ghost from a different decade.\u00c2\u00a0 Casey said the series is a light read.\u00c2\u00a0 Sounds perfect for porch reading.\u00c2\u00a0 Casey currently lives in the Cleveland area.<\/p>\n<p>Next is <strong><em>Embers<\/em><\/strong> by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salamanderstales.com\/\">Laura Bickle<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Anya is an arson investigator in Detroit by day.\u00c2\u00a0 At night she&#8217;s part of a ghost hunting team.\u00c2\u00a0 Anya is a psychic medium who believes a supernatural arsonist is setting fires to summon a fiery being.\u00c2\u00a0 Time is running out before the spell will be complete.\u00c2\u00a0 Laura lives in Ohio.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wolfsbaneandabsinthe.com\/\">Linda Robertson<\/a>&#8216;s <strong><em>Vicious Circle <\/em><\/strong>is next.\u00c2\u00a0 Persephone Alcmedi is a tarot card reading witch.\u00c2\u00a0 Witches don&#8217;t mix with werewolves but Persephone&#8217;s best friend is one.\u00c2\u00a0 Life is piling up for Persephone &#8211; her grandmother gets kicked out of her nursing home, her best friend is murdered, and she&#8217;s been asked to kill a vampire.\u00c2\u00a0 The little thing at the top of the pile is the cedar and sage soap with a tag on it.\u00c2\u00a0 It represents what Persephone smells when she puts on the leather jacket of Johnny, a werewolf she&#8217;s attracted to.\u00c2\u00a0 Both Persephone and Linda live in Cleveland.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Spellbent<\/em><\/strong> by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sff.net\/people\/lucy-snyder\/\">Lucy A. Snyder<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 One of my favorite books so far this year and not just because it&#8217;s set in Columbus.\u00c2\u00a0 Jessie Shimmer is a magic student trying to summon up a rain storm to end a drought.\u00c2\u00a0 During the spell she loses her teacher (and lover) into a portal and a demon is on the loose.\u00c2\u00a0 Lucy lives in a suburb about 15 minutes away from me.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>All the Way Home<\/em><\/strong> by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidgiffels.com\/\">David Giffels<\/a> is a memoir about\u00c2\u00a0finding (and repairing) the perfect home in Akron, Ohio with his wife and infant son.\u00c2\u00a0 At one time, Akron employed over 35% of the production workers involved in the rubber industry.\u00c2\u00a0 The home David finds is a challenge.\u00c2\u00a0 Once the home of a rubber executive\u00c2\u00a0it&#8217;s fallen into disrepair of the worst kind.\u00c2\u00a0 Animals live inside the house and the roof has more holes than shingles.\u00c2\u00a0 David lives in Akron.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Under Glass: The Girl with a Thousand Christmas Trees<\/em><\/strong> by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/profiles\/jen.hirt.jenszi\">Jen Hirt<\/a> is a memoir about the family greenhouse business.\u00c2\u00a0 Her family life has been turned upside down and the greenhouse land has been sold to a nationwide pharmacy.\u00c2\u00a0 The greenhouses are\u00c2\u00a0torn down but her family won&#8217;t.\u00c2\u00a0 Jen grew up in Valley City, Ohio and currently teaches in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Sparks and Shadows<\/strong><\/em> (two copies) by Lucy A.
