{"id":2182,"date":"2010-02-07T14:08:49","date_gmt":"2010-02-07T18:08:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/?p=2182"},"modified":"2010-02-07T14:08:49","modified_gmt":"2010-02-07T18:08:49","slug":"saying-goodbye-to-an-old-friend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/?p=2182","title":{"rendered":"Saying Goodbye to An Old Friend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>About a week and a half ago, my Palm T|X fell from our phone cabinet and my keys went with it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/DSCN3341.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2221\" title=\"Injured Palm\" src=\"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/DSCN3341-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/DSCN3341-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/DSCN3341-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The screen itself appears to be holding together but there&#8217;s funny business going on underneath.\u00c2\u00a0 Where you see yellow in the picture, the dead grey pixels are slowly taking over and spreading out.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s getting difficult to see people&#8217;s addresses and phone numbers in my contact list.<\/p>\n<p>I started off with a Palm V.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;d play Mahjong while waiting in long lines.\u00c2\u00a0 There are years of Palm archives on my computer that contain contact and calendar information.\u00c2\u00a0 If an appointment wasn&#8217;t on the calendar then it didn&#8217;t exist.\u00c2\u00a0 It took me a long time to figure out how to use Graffiti so my letters were recognized.\u00c2\u00a0 I bought a keyboard for it thinking I would write story ideas into the memos but the keyboard never worked right.<\/p>\n<p>When I thought\u00c2\u00a0my Palm\u00c2\u00a0had been lost in a recliner I bought another one to replace it.\u00c2\u00a0 After a week or two, I really dug into that recliner and found the original one.\u00c2\u00a0 I kept the one with the better buttons and sold the other one to my friend Rob.\u00c2\u00a0 He loved having it, but left it on top of his car one night after work and drove off without it.\u00c2\u00a0 Rob was distracted when he answered his cell phone.\u00c2\u00a0 He did find it, but it was in such bad shape he bought another used one.<\/p>\n<p>A few years ago my husband decided I needed an upgrade.\u00c2\u00a0 He knew I wouldn&#8217;t do it myself.\u00c2\u00a0 My Christmas present was this Palm T|X.\u00c2\u00a0 It had color!\u00c2\u00a0 Sound!\u00c2\u00a0 Wifi!\u00c2\u00a0 Bluetooth!\u00c2\u00a0 I could no longer play Mahjong\u00c2\u00a0during long waits\u00c2\u00a0but I could read books with the Adobe Reader.\u00c2\u00a0 Or check my email at the airport.\u00c2\u00a0 Or figure out from imdb.com what movie my family was watching while at the Topsail Beach house.\u00c2\u00a0 One of the really cool things was color coding all my calendar entries.\u00c2\u00a0 If it was Orange then I was going to see a movie.\u00c2\u00a0 If it was Pink, then I had something writing related to do.<\/p>\n<p>Palm stopped making the T|X in March 2009.\u00c2\u00a0 A few months ago the Palm OS stopped on mine and I had to upgrade to a higher version.\u00c2\u00a0 I found out the hard way it couldn&#8217;t setup recurring tasks like the old OS.\u00c2\u00a0 Put a check mark in the box and it would not generate the same task for the next week; I missed that feature.\u00c2\u00a0 And the desktop calendar didn&#8217;t show the color coded entries.<\/p>\n<p>It looks like an iPhone is my near future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>About a week and a half ago, my Palm T|X fell from our phone cabinet and my keys went with it.
