{"id":164,"date":"2008-08-25T18:28:00","date_gmt":"2008-08-25T22:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/?p=164"},"modified":"2008-08-25T18:28:00","modified_gmt":"2008-08-25T22:28:00","slug":"pecha-kucha-night-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/?p=164","title":{"rendered":"Pecha Kucha Night Part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first part of my post about Pecha Kucha Volume 7 in Columbus can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/?p=158\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Soon Part 3 will be posted.<\/p>\n<p>One of the wonderful things about Pecha Kucha Night is the variety in the presenters.\u00c2\u00a0 Even people who have the same profession approach similar topics differently.\u00c2\u00a0 Some of the presenters seemed more comfortable talking into the microphone and addressing the audience than others.\u00c2\u00a0 All appeared to be enthusiastic or passionate about their topics.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>By my estimate, there were at least 100 people in the audience.\u00c2\u00a0 It was difficult to determine how many people left after the first set of presenters since many people, myself included, moved to other seats.\u00c2\u00a0 All of the presenters provided their slides to the organizers prior to the event to provide cohesiveness and consistency in the presentations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.geturban.com\/KyleEzell.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Kyle Ezell<\/a> \/ City Planning \/ <em>Changing the Culture, Transforming American Cities<\/em> &#8211; Kyle&#8217;s written several books on city planning.\u00c2\u00a0 His present focus is on turning what is considered trendy or unusual into the norm.\u00c2\u00a0 His slides provided visuals for his contrasts between trendy and normal.\u00c2\u00a0 In Columbus we practically live in our cars to travel to the other side of town or do our grocery shopping for the week in one day.\u00c2\u00a0 One of the points Kyle made was that by walking more often and carrying our things, we&#8217;ll increase\u00c2\u00a0our lives and the lives of our cities.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.studiohonline.com\/tom\/digital\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Hubbard<\/a> \/ Digital Artist \/ <em>Carl Jung Quotes and My Art <\/em>&#8211; Tom&#8217;s presentation was probably the most unique.\u00c2\u00a0 His slides consisted of his artwork with a quote.\u00c2\u00a0 Tom provided some commentary for the titles.\u00c2\u00a0 It was mostly a silent presentation that offered a moment of contemplation on the artwork.\u00c2\u00a0 The room had the ambiance of a quiet art gallery.<\/p>\n<p>Stasia Czech \/ Interior Designer \/ <em>Authenticy <\/em>&#8211; Stasia recently read the first <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ziba.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ziba<\/a> book about authenticity and shared with the audience some of the points from the book.\u00c2\u00a0 Authenticity can refer to a philosophy of living.\u00c2\u00a0 In this case, authenticity is what makes one company different from another.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Consumers\u00c2\u00a0can often recognize when they are\u00c2\u00a0being targeted in a marketing campaign &#8211; they are a lot more intelligent about\u00c2\u00a0marketing than they were 20 years ago.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Her slides consisted of a timeline and companies she felt followed authenticity.<\/p>\n<p>Catherine Mehrl Bennett \/ Artist \/ <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lulu.com\/content\/2794266\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Kimono Collaboration<\/em> <\/a>&#8211; I had a preconceived notion that this would be slides of photographs of kimonos.\u00c2\u00a0 I was wrong and it wasn&#8217;t until I googled her that I found her book.\u00c2\u00a0 She collaborated with other artists and poets to design art that fit into the shape of a kimono.\u00c2\u00a0 Her slides were of the finished products.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kevinbickle.com\" target=\"_blank\">Kevin Bickle<\/a> \/ Freestyle Bike Rider\u00c2\u00a0 Artist \/ <em>Freestyle Tricks\u00c2\u00a0 Art <\/em>&#8211; Kevin&#8217;s first career was a freestyle bike rider.\u00c2\u00a0 His book took him on many travels across the country.\u00c2\u00a0 When he got a little bit older he gave himself over to Christ and\u00c2\u00a0went on one of Stephen Baldwin&#8217;s tours.\u00c2\u00a0 Somewhere along the way he traveled to Africa too.\u00c2\u00a0 Kevin&#8217;s in his 30&#8217;s now and is getting a little too old for the freestyling so he&#8217;s taken up art.\u00c2\u00a0 His slides consisted of pictures from both careers; you can see many of them for yourself on his site.\u00c2\u00a0 Kevin offered to do some of his tricks in the lobby during the intermission with the caveat that he hadn&#8217;t really done anything on it in the last two years.<\/p>\n<p>I spent most of the intermission actually conversing\u00c2\u00a0with one of the presenters for the second half of the evening before realizing I shouldn&#8217;t monopolize all of her time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first part of my post about Pecha Kucha Volume 7 in Columbus can be found here.\u00c2\u00a0 Soon Part 3 will be posted.
