In a twist to the Story of the Month feature, I’d like to highlight a poem for National Poetry Month.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n
My husband introduced me to it\u00c2\u00a0while the first Resident Corgi was going through chemotherapy.\u00c2\u00a0 Except for the first six or seven weeks of his life, Zilla was with us for an unforgettable eleven years.\u00c2\u00a0 The treatments bought us about four more months.\u00c2\u00a0 It was worth every penny.\u00c2\u00a0 There were more good days than bad when the end was nearing.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nGravy, these past ten years.
\nAlive, sober, working, loving and
\nbeing loved by a good woman.\u00c2\u00a0 Eleven years
\nago he was told he had six months to live
\nat the rate he was going.\u00c2\u00a0 And he was going
\nnowhere but down.\u00c2\u00a0 So he changed his ways
\nsomehow.\u00c2\u00a0 He quit drinking!\u00c2\u00a0 And the rest?
\nAfter that it was all<\/em> gravy, every minute
\nof it, up to and including when he was gold about,
\nwell, some things that were breaking down and
\nbuilding up inside his head.\u00c2\u00a0 “Don’t weep for me,”
\nhe said to his friends.\u00c2\u00a0 “I’m a lucky man.
\nI’ve had ten years longer than I or anyone
