{"id":100,"date":"2008-08-19T15:57:56","date_gmt":"2008-08-19T19:57:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/?p=100"},"modified":"2008-08-19T15:57:56","modified_gmt":"2008-08-19T19:57:56","slug":"types-of-book-reviewers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.amberstults.com\/?p=100","title":{"rendered":"Types of Book Reviewers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of my <a href=\"http:\/\/wpm.weebly.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">online writing groups<\/a> contains a handful of book reviewers along with authors and marketing personnel.\u00c2\u00a0 Recently the book reviewers had a discussion about how they got into book reviewing and the types of books they&#8217;ll review.\u00c2\u00a0 This got me thinking about the types of book reviewers I&#8217;ve seen.<\/p>\n<p>Through my internet travels I&#8217;ve found there are several types of book reviewers.\u00c2\u00a0 This is not a complete list so feel free to leave a comment with any of the other types of book reviewers you&#8217;ve seen or leave a link as an example!<\/p>\n<p>The first type writes reviews to share with others.\u00c2\u00a0 They review books they&#8217;ve purchased or been given.\u00c2\u00a0 Sometimes they have their own domain name with web pages but often they post their reviews on a hosted blog site.\u00c2\u00a0 One of the joys is that the reviewer has a unique voice and you never know what kind of book will be reviewed next.\u00c2\u00a0This reviewer may or may not be specialized.\u00c2\u00a0 For example, a majority of the reviews are children&#8217;s books or simply any book that comes across their desk.<\/p>\n<p>The second type writes reviews for a specific publication.\u00c2\u00a0 They review books sent to them by the publication (or author on behalf of the publication).\u00c2\u00a0 All reviews are available only through the publication in print format or on the publication&#8217;s site.\u00c2\u00a0 Payment for the review varies\u00c2\u00a0for each\u00c2\u00a0publication.\u00c2\u00a0 It could be the book itself, a monetary payment, or both.\u00c2\u00a0 These are usually a bit more formal regarding the content of the review\u00c2\u00a0such as always including a synopsis,\u00c2\u00a0the ISBN number and\/or purchase information.<\/p>\n<p>The third type of reviewer is the hybrid reviewer.\u00c2\u00a0 Reviews may be done on a personal web site or blog and for a specific publication.\u00c2\u00a0 If the same book appears in both places the review is usually different.\u00c2\u00a0 The reader will be different so the review is geared towards the audience.<\/p>\n<p>All of the reviewers have value as they can all influence whether or not you want to read a specific book.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of my online writing groups contains a handful of book reviewers along with authors and marketing personnel.\u00c2\u00a0 Recently the book reviewers had a discussion about how they got into book reviewing and the types of books they&#8217;ll review.\u00c2\u00a0 This got me thinking about the types of book reviewers I&#8217;ve seen.
