Happy Wednesday!

My goal for Round 3 of A Round of Words in 80 Days is to write another 10,000 words on my unfinished fantasy manuscript. That averaged to 125 words a day and now I have to write more since I’m behind. There’s been a little progress this week but not too much. At least the word count is moving.

Happy Wednesday!

My goal for Round 3 of A Round of Words in 80 Days is to write another 10,000 words on my unfinished fantasy manuscript. That averages to 125 words a day. I’ve written nothing new this month.

Goal: 10,000 Words

Progress: Behind But Can Still Catch Up

What are your favorite ways to procrastinate from writing? I found myself with a free evening last night. I even told my husband I was going to write.

Instead, I spent time on my desktop (it’s older and needs some more memory so it takes a long time to do stuff on it). Let’s count the ways in which I procrastinated:

  1. Downloaded pictures from my digital camera.
  2. Listened to old favorites on iTunes and listened to samples of new music.
  3. Updated Quicken.
  4. Emailed all of the recognizable ebook files to be added to my Kindle.
  5. Synched up my smart phone.
  6. Charged and synched up my mini iPod.
  7. Added the ebook titles into my LibraryThing collection.
  8. Updated my Niteblade interview spreadsheet.

Four hours gone and not a written word. And I still had things I could do to procrastinate. I guess I’ll do them in a few days. How are you doing on your ROW80 or writing goal?

Happy Sunday!

My goal for Round 3 of A Round of Words in 80 Days is to write another 10,000 words on my unfinished fantasy manuscript. That averages to 125 words a day. I’ve been doing some writing this week so I’m still a little behind but have room to catch up.

Someone in their initial ROW80 post said they’d do weekly check-ins but not two as it seemed a bit much. I’ve found that doing a check-in makes me think about doing my writing and that’s something I need during the week.

My goal for Round 3 of A Round of Words in 80 Days is to write another 10,000 words on my unfinished fantasy manuscript. I did the math and that averages to 125 words a day. As of today I should be up to 3,000 words.

I’ve made some progress in the last few days. Encouraging comments left on my blog let me know I’m not in this alone. Also, I keep thinking about the 5k+ days I’ve put in the last two NaNoWriMos and how painful they were. I don’t want or need self induced stress so I try to minimize it as much as possible. And it turns my right hand into a claw from typing so much.

If one of your goals is to edit a novel, I recommend EditPalooza at Savvy Authors. There is a new one starting in September. It fills up pretty quickly but as they get more editors to agree to work with the group, more spaces become available. I did one earlier this year for another unfinished novel which helped me use different writing muscles.

Happy Sunday!

My goal for Round 3 of A Round of Words in 80 Days is to write another 10,000 words on my unfinished fantasy manuscript. I did the math and that averages to 125 words a day. Since Wednesday I’ve made some movement in the right direction. I’m behind. It’s still early though, so I am not concerned yet about meeting my goal.

I had Thursday off work and the plan was to spend an hour or two writing. Instead, the wireless network that went on the fritz was fixed and I did a first pass on all the paper clutter in the office. It was truly liberating to get that stuff gone. Eventually I’d like to put a desk in there so I can have my own place to write.

ROW80 – Midweek Check-In 7/20/11

I feel guilty. I didn’t do my Sunday update and I didn’t write anything new this week. I know the point of ROW80 is to be able to have a life while meeting your writing goals. There will be more progress this week. If not, you can call me a yellow-bellied gecko.

I did write a first draft of a short story this week but those words don’t count towards my ROW80 goal. My ROW80 goal is to add another 10k words to an unfinished fantasy novel I’ve been working on. Although I’m behind I’m still happy because I’m making progress.

I did something crazy. I signed up to write a new short story every week from July 2011 to June 2012. Don’t be surprised if sometime this year you find me incorporating it into my writing goals.

June 2011

Posted in Status Report, Writing at 1:00 am by Amber

These statistics are all for short stories, poems, or contest entries. Book reviews are not included.

  1. Sales in June: 0
  2. Rejections in June: 0
  3. Submissions sent out in June: 0
  4. Total stories/poems/contests pending responses: 1

This month I took a conservative approach to my submissions. I wrote some new flash fiction in May. Instead of sending them out right away I sent them off to my Savvy Authors Flash Fiction group and off to another critique group. Normally I would’ve declared them “done” and sent them off since I’d already had feedback from people in May’s short story workshop. But I know they aren’t 100% ready and I’m utilizing my additional resources to get them just right.

I’ve been doing some editing and writing on an unfinished fantasy novel. It’s good to keep busy while I’m waiting for feedback or I’d be obsessively refreshing my inbox.

How was your month?
