Sparks and Shadows New Cover

Lucy A. Snyder is the Bram Stoker Award-winning author of the novels Spellbent and Shotgun Sorceress and the collections Sparks and Shadows, Chimeric Machines, and Installing Linux on a Dead Badger. Her writing has appeared in Strange Horizons, Weird Tales, Hellbound Hearts, Masques V, Doctor Who Short Trips: Destination Prague, Chiaroscuro, GUD, and Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet.

She’s at the World Fantasy Convention this weekend and Shotgun Sorceress went on sale this week.  I’m holding the giveaway to celebrate the release date and introduce more people to her work.

Lucy and I live in the same city but never connected until the Ohioana Book Festival in May.  This is a signed copy of Sparks and Shadows.  It’s the only place you can read “Forgetting”, my Story of the Month pick.

You can receive an entry by leaving a comment that you’re interested in this book.  Contest is open to International entries.  The randomizer at Random.org will pick a winner at 11pm Eastern on 11/1/2010.

Good luck!

CSN Stores Giveaway

Posted in Giveaway at 6:26 pm by Amber

I can be indecisive when it comes to things I may have around for a long time.  Whatever I get must be something I’ll like for a long while and won’t break after six months.

When we decided to buy new bedroom furniture we knew the most important thing would be the bed.  What would be best?  A platform bed, a sleigh bed and so on.  The new bedroom furniture is still on hold.

When CSN Stores approached me about reviewing a product of theirs it took me a week or so to decide I might want an immersion blender.  It’s autumn and soups are a good way to stay warm for the next six months.  Wouldn’t it be perfect to make some soups and freeze them for NaNoWriMo?  It would be perfect but I’m not feeling ambitious right now.

So you get a chance to do what you want with a $75 CSN Stores gift certificate!  What might you spend your gift certificate on?  Take a look around at their stores  a little so you won’t be indecisive like me.  All you have to do to sign up for the giveaway is leave a comment to let me know you’re interested.  I’ll pick a winner on October 17th at 10:00pm Eastern using my favorite randomizer, random.org.  If you’re shipping address is in Canada the item(s) you order may have additional shipping or international charges.

Giveaway and Recipe Exchange from Two Writing Friends

Posted in Event, Giveaway at 11:40 am by Amber

Oh!  I nearly forgot to tell you about a current giveaway and an upcoming recipe exchange.

Rhonda Parrish is giving away a copy of Shades of Greenon Goodreads.  The contest ends on September 30th.  I reviewed Shades of Green in February and followed that up with an interview.

Starting October 5th, Beth Cato is holding a recipe exchange to celebrate the publication of her story, “A Recipe for Rain and Rainbows” in Mountain Magic: Spellbinding Tales of Appalachia.  It’s an anthology of 13 stories and poems with a foreward by Lucy A. Snyder.  The recipe exchange should give you a head start on holiday goodies.

Upcoming Attractions!

Posted in Event at 2:02 pm by Amber

I wanted to provide you with a list of upcoming attractions over the next few months.  Today and tomorrow you may see a few book reviews go up that are related to Booking Mama’s 2010 EW Summer Books Challenge.

September

Book Blogger Appreciation Week – BBAW is scheduled this year from September 13th to September 17th.  This year I’m going to keep my planned activities light since I’m not sure if my plans include gall bladder surgery or not but you’ll find an interview swap for certain.

Back to School Month – For some reason I’ve read a lot of teen/young adult fantasy in one big clump.  You’ll find a bunch of reviews and a two part community interview with Artist Arthur, the author of Manifest.

October

Lucy A. Snyder Book Giveaway – Lucy has written an urban fantasy series set in Columbus, Ohio.  The first book, Spellbent, is one of my favorite fantasy book reads this year.  The sequel, Shotgun Sorceress, will be released into the wild in late October.  I have a signed copy of Lucy’s fiction/poetry/humor collection titled Sparks and Shadows to giveaway.  During October you might find a review or two of some of her writing.

World Fantasy Convention 2010 – Why yes, I am attending the World Fantasy Convention this year.  It’s being held in Columbus.  I’ve no idea what to expect so we’ll find out together.

November

Gotcha Month – Most of the book reviews for November will be about books featuring dogs.  Why November?  We don’t know the Resident Corgi’s birthday so we celebrate his Gotcha Day instead.  Not all of the reviews are written yet but I promise you’ll find a variety of dog stories.

CSN Stores Gift Certificate Giveaway!

Posted in Giveaway at 11:07 am by Amber

We moved into our house on 7/4/2007 and were furniture shopping three days later during the Lucky Seven sales that were happening everywhere.  The furniture didn’t get delivered until October.  We bought three lamps shortly afterwards from CSN Lighting which all arrived quickly and in good shape.

I was excited when the opportunity came up to hold this giveaway for a CSN Stores $60 Gift Certificate for my readers because I had such a positive experience with the lamps we bought.  After three years the house isn’t entirely the way we’d like it.  We’ve talked about replacing our dishware but first I want to get new dining room furniture to help set the tone.

With over 200 CSN Stores to choose from, I don’t think it would be difficult to find something to spend the $60 on.  Maybe you want a new writing desk or some mixing bowls to make your favorite cookies.  It doesn’t matter, just know that if you’re shipping address is in Canada the item(s) you order may have additional shipping or international charges with your order.

All you have to do to sign up for the giveaway is leave a comment to let me know you’re interested.  I’ll pick a winner on August 1st at 11:00pm using my favorite randomizer, random.org.

Good luck!

Win Your Own Copy of I Has A Hotdog!

Posted in Giveaway at 3:16 pm by Amber

I Has A Hotdog! is popping up all over since it was released this week. Hachette Book Group has been kind enough to allow three of my readers the opportunity to win their own copy.

Here are the rules:

  1. This is open to US and Canadian addresses (no P.O. Boxes) only.
  2. Random.org will choose a winner Friday, April 30th, 6pm Eastern from the entries.
  3. Leave a comment naming your favorite fictional or real dog. (The canine can be from a book, movie or painting.)

While you think about #3, here is a link to Anna Balasi’s Blog Talk Radio interview with Professor Happycat (aka Ben Huh).  You may recognize some of the names of people with questions.

Forget Lassie and Benji.  One of my all-time favorite dogs is Skippy.  You know him best as Asta from The Thin Man movies and he was also in Bringing Up Baby.  I’ll take an intelligent dog that can make me laugh any day of the week.

Note: This is a sticky post – there may be newer posts below this one.

Win Your Own Copy of A Field Guide to Burying Your Parents by Liza Palmer

Posted in Event, Giveaway at 1:12 am by Amber

In November last year, I posted my review of Liza Palmer’s A Field Guide to Burying Your Parents.

This Friday at 1pm Eastern, Liza Palmer has a live interview on Blog Talk Radio.  Stop by to listen in or call with a question.

In conjunction with the interview, Hachette Book Group has been kind enough to allow one of my readers the opportunity to win their own copy of A Field Guide To Burying Your Parents

Here are the rules:

  1. This is open to US and Canadian addresses (no P.O. Boxes) only.
  2. Random.org will choose a winner Friday, January 8th, 2pm from the entries.
  3. Grace Hawkes, the main character, walks away from her siblings after their mother dies.  Leave a comment on what you would want to walk away from, if you could.

I think I would want to walk away from a clock.  It would be great if I could show up at the library or bookstore at 3am when I can’t fall asleep.

Note: This is a sticky post – there may be newer posts below this one.
