A Month of Letters Challenge Update #2

Posted in Event at 11:23 pm by Amber

2/6/12 – Today I mailed a thank you card to Portland, Oregon to a fellow challenge participant. And I received my first piece of mail! An Ohio post card from a California participant in the challenge.

2/7/12 – Today I mailed a note card to a former neighbor. She moved out of town to be near her parents and I’ve not seen her in a while.

2/8/12 – Nothing was mailed out today but I received some things I was looking forward to. The stamps and post cards I ordered from the post office arrived. And so did my Corgi Valentine post cards. They are cute!

2/9/12 – Today I mailed two items. A thank you note to the challenge organizer and a challenge participant.

2/10/12 – Nothing went out today.

2/11/12 – I worked on some Valentine’s themed post cards but they didn’t get out in time for the mailman to pick up.

A Month of Letters Challenge Update #1

Posted in Event at 2:59 pm by Amber

1/31/2012 – I printed off the Challenge Calendar to plan the recipients of my letters. And I printed off the participant stamp page so I could include the challenge stamp with the letters.

My stationary is kept in two places. I took inventory and realized I have hardly any! I have less than a dozen note cards. At the grocery store I scoped out what they had but it was mostly Thank You cards. Because I don’t have any sticker paper, I bought a glue stick to place my participant stamps.

2/1/12 – While I did send out several bills (which I don’t count) I did not get to send out anything personal.

2/2/12 – Today I wrote and sent a letter to one of my oldest friends who lives elsewhere in the Midwest.

2/3/12 – I was going to send out a postcard today and realized I have no postcards. So I ordered postage paid postcards and stamps from the USPS web site.

2/4/12 – Nothing went out in today’s mail. But I purchased some note cards and cards at my local Hallmark store.

A Month of Letters Challenge

Posted in Event at 10:05 pm by Amber

A Month of Letters 2012I don’t know about you, but I love to send and receive letters. During middle school I had pen pals in Turkey, Germany and Japan. Whenever I would visit my grandmother in Nevada, I wrote my best friend every other day.

I’ve gotten out of the letter writing habit. I don’t even really send emails. Isn’t it nice to get something in the mail that tells you someone was thinking of you? When Beth and Rhonda both mentioned the A Month of Letters Challenge on Twitter I was immediately intrigued. And it’s only tonight, just a few days before it starts, that I’ve decided to participate.

If you want me to send you a letter and I don’t have your snail mail address, just leave a comment and I’ll email you or send you a message.

ROW80 Round 3 Final Check-in

Posted in Event, Writing at 9:57 pm by Amber

Fireworks

My revised goal for Round 3 of A Round of Words in 80 Days was to write another 5,000 words on my unfinished fantasy manuscript.

Here is how I did:

Goal: 5,000 Words
Words Written: 5027
Progress: Made it!

I was behind until this week when I kicked it into gear.

Are you going to join me for Round 4? I’m going to work on some short stories and getting my first three pages of this novel back to an editor.

ROW80 Sunday Check-in for 9/18/11

Posted in Event, Writing at 7:47 pm by Amber

Before I get to the goals I wanted to talk about procrastination. I’m really into the habit of not writing more than writing. The other week I put some thought into my procrastination habit. Depending on the circumstances, I’m a rebellious or perfectionist procrastinator.

It wasn’t until recently I picked up on my rebelliousness. For example, I should weed the backyard so we have more grass than weeds but I’m an adult with my own house – I’ll get to it when I get to it.

The perfectionism thing is something I’ve been slowly letting go of the past few years. I started with giving myself permission to write lousy first drafts. Sound familiar to anyone?

My goal for Round 3 of A Round of Words in 80 Days is to write another 10,000 words on my unfinished fantasy manuscript. There are 4 days left in the challenge. That averages to 1622 words a day in order to make my goal.

Goal: 10,000 Words
Words Written: 3510 (nothing new since Tuesday)
Progress: Extremely Behind But Can Still Catch Up

But I’ve decided to revise the goal. Another way of letting go of perfection, right? I know I can write those words all in a day or two if I do nothing else. And the point of A Round of Words in 80 Days is to have a life while you reach your writing goals.

So here is my revised goal:

Goal: 5,000 Words
Words Written: 3510
Progress: Behind But Can Still Catch Up

Happy Sunday!

My goal for Round 3 of A Round of Words in 80 Days is to write another 10,000 words on my unfinished fantasy manuscript. That averaged to 125 words a day and now I have to write about 650 a day in order to make my goal. There are 11 days left in the challenge.

Goal: 10,000 Words
Words Written: 2821 (782 since 8/28/11)
Progress: Extremely Behind But Can Still Catch Up

I didn’t post any check-ins this past week because I was embarrassed of my 9 words. I’m sure visitors are tired of hearing the same thing twice a week about how little I was able to write. And how stubborn I am about not changing my goal.

One of the mini-workshops I took last month involved using engaging words to make your story come alive. The editor offered to look at the first three pages of our manuscripts. I sent them on and was surprised to have a critique within 24 hours. You know what was encouraging? They really need work but she didn’t tell me it was complete crap. In fact, she offered to look at them again after I worked on them some more which was nice.

Happy Sunday

My goal for Round 3 of A Round of Words in 80 Days is to write another 10,000 words on my unfinished fantasy manuscript. That averaged to 125 words a day and now I have to write more since I’m behind. No new words this week.

Goal: 10,000 Words
Words Written: 2039
Progress: Behind But Can Still Catch Up

I kept busy this week working on Savvy Authors Summer Symposium miniworkshops. They pack a lot of assignments into a four day window. It’s all good and I did limit myself so I wouldn’t be overstretched. Oh, and in case you’re wondering… I have some bachelorette time coming up in about 2 weeks. Words will flow!

Happy Thursday! I didn’t get my check-in ready in time to post it yesterday though there isn’t really anything new to report.

My goal for Round 3 of A Round of Words in 80 Days is to write another 10,000 words on my unfinished fantasy manuscript. That averaged to 125 words a day and now I have to write more since I’m behind. No new words since Saturday.

Goal: 10,000 Words
Words Written: 2039
Progress: Behind But Can Still Catch Up

What’s been keeping me busy this week? A critique class at Savvy Authors and now their Summer Symposium which is full of mini-workshops. I have limited myself to only a few. Oh, and this guy…

He’s been in his e-collar for almost a month now. On Monday the Resident Corgi had a second keratotomy. I hope this one works.

Happy Sunday!

My goal for Round 3 of A Round of Words in 80 Days is to write another 10,000 words on my unfinished fantasy manuscript. That averaged to 125 words a day and now I have to write more since I’m behind. I had a big jump in words this week.

Goal: 10,000 Words
Words Written: 2039 (that’s 743 new words since last Sunday!)
Progress: Behind But Can Still Catch Up

How did I do it? During the beginning of the week, I use my mornings to watch TrueBlood and any cooking shows I recorded from the weekend. After getting those out of the way that gave me some 20 – 30 minute chunks in the morning to just write. So that’s what I did.

How are you doing on your ROW80 or writing goal?
