A Month of Letters Challenge Update #2

Posted in Event at 11:23 pm by Amber

2/6/12 – Today I mailed a thank you card to Portland, Oregon to a fellow challenge participant. And I received my first piece of mail! An Ohio post card from a California participant in the challenge.

2/7/12 – Today I mailed a note card to a former neighbor. She moved out of town to be near her parents and I’ve not seen her in a while.

2/8/12 – Nothing was mailed out today but I received some things I was looking forward to. The stamps and post cards I ordered from the post office arrived. And so did my Corgi Valentine post cards. They are cute!

2/9/12 – Today I mailed two items. A thank you note to the challenge organizer and a challenge participant.

2/10/12 – Nothing went out today.

2/11/12 – I worked on some Valentine’s themed post cards but they didn’t get out in time for the mailman to pick up.

Mailbox Monday – February 27

Mailbox Monday

A big thank you to Marcia at A Girl and Her Books for originating Mailbox Monday. This weekly meme is now on tour with a new host each month. February’s host is Metroreader.

This week I picked up Headhunters by Charlie Cole. Simon Parks is a headhunter by trade, finding the best talent in the industry. Simon’s industry happens to be the international spy game. When tragedy rips his life apart he relocates to a new town and starts over, only to find that his old life has followed him home.

What arrived in your mailbox this week?

A Month of Letters Challenge Update #1

Posted in Event at 2:59 pm by Amber

1/31/2012 – I printed off the Challenge Calendar to plan the recipients of my letters. And I printed off the participant stamp page so I could include the challenge stamp with the letters.

My stationary is kept in two places. I took inventory and realized I have hardly any! I have less than a dozen note cards. At the grocery store I scoped out what they had but it was mostly Thank You cards. Because I don’t have any sticker paper, I bought a glue stick to place my participant stamps.

2/1/12 – While I did send out several bills (which I don’t count) I did not get to send out anything personal.

2/2/12 – Today I wrote and sent a letter to one of my oldest friends who lives elsewhere in the Midwest.

2/3/12 – I was going to send out a postcard today and realized I have no postcards. So I ordered postage paid postcards and stamps from the USPS web site.

2/4/12 – Nothing went out in today’s mail. But I purchased some note cards and cards at my local Hallmark store.

Regal Literary Giveaway

Posted in Giveaway at 5:50 am by Amber

WERegal Literary has resolved to give away more books than ever in 2012 so they’re giving away a copy of Josh Bazell’s forthcoming WILD THING, his sequel to 2009’s BEAT THE REAPER. (As a bonus, they’re also giving away a few copies of BEAT THE REAPER, in case you missed out on how it all began!) The giveaway is open until February 8th on their site at http://www.regal-literary.com/contests/wildthing/.

Dr. Pietro Brnwa is on the run from the mob he used to kill for. With a new name and a new job that’s tolerable only because it keeps him alive, he’s looking for a way to hurt the mob so badly that it will leave him alone forever.

Dr. Violet Hurst is a sexy and self-destructive paleontologist in the employ of a reclusive billionaire whose obsession with an urban legend living in the woods of Minnesota can’t possibly be justified. Or can it?

The offer of a job protecting Violet could be just the opportunity Pietro’s been looking for. It could also be a hellish morass of murder, corruption, insanity, and international drug smuggling, not to mention the occasional lake monster. But what are the odds of that?

Things are about to get wild.

“It’s so rare that you see a really brilliant writer who is committed, 100%, in every sentence, to giving you a good time. Bazell is, and he does.” – Lev Grossman, Time

I’m on their mailing list because I’ve tried to win some of their giveaways and thought I’d pass this one along.
